HBOC syndrome education, and the research it is based on, is a moving target. Hereditary cancer is a fairly new science with the discovery of the first genetic mutation being in the early 1990′s. A research cycle takes about 20 years, so we are just starting to receive solid research to guide medical recommendations and help carriers make life-saving decisions.
Once the research is in place it can take several more years to be vetted and reflected in official medical recommendations. As such, it is essential that HBOC syndrome carriers and their medical professionals keep current on the latest research.
Representatives from the HBOC Society attend international conferences and events in order to ensure the most timely information is available to our target group. We disseminate that information through this website and the Risky Genes website, our Bulletin and annual OUR GENES Conference.
